We will learn about shame and how it makes people vulnerable to addictions. focus is on helping professionals to learn more about approaching treatment with not only recovery from chemical dependency but also the active recovery of the Self. By understanding that one’s feelings of unworthiness originates because of the unwittingly passed down beliefs and behaviors of their families, we can help clients disengage from their shame and claim a Self based on healthy truths.

Connie Dawson Bio

Connie has vast experience as an attachment-oriented therapist, an Assistant Professor in the Counselor Education program at Portland State, a consultant to schools implementing student assistance programs for the Johnson Institute, and co-author of two parenting books. This has led to her current work on the effects of covert rules that govern interactions in shame-based families and what can be done to expose them. “Once exposed, they don’t stand up well to the light of day” she says. “Remediation is possible!”
